Heart Shaped Cookies

Course Dessert

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 3 cups flour
  • decorator icing in tube in wedding color

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • In a large bowl, combine butter and sugar with a mixer. Beat in egg and vanilla. Add baking powder and flour, one cup at a time, mixing after each addition. The dough will be stiff; blend last flour in by hand. Do not chill dough.
  • Divide dough into 2 balls. On a floured surface, roll each ball in a circle approximately 12 inches in diameter and 1/8 inch thick. Use heart shaped cutters as guide; dough should be only slightly thinner than cutter. Dip cutter in flour before each use. Using a straw, punch a hole in the cookie.
  • Bake cookies on ungreased cookie sheet on top rack of oven for 6-7 minutes, or until cookies are lightly browned. Remove to wire racks and cool completely. Frost with your favorite glaze. Using the wedding color, write the bride's name on 1/2 the cookies and the groom's name on the other half. Let icing completely dry.
  • Tie one of each of the cookies together with wedding colored ribbon, tying plastic golden rings at the bow. Use as favors or announcements. Makes about 4 dozen cookies. Enjoy!
