Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
In a large bowl, combine butter and sugar with a mixer. Beat in egg and vanilla. Add baking powder and flour, one cup at a time, mixing after each addition. The dough will be stiff; blend last flour in by hand. Do not chill dough.
Divide dough into 2 balls. On a floured surface, roll each ball in a circle approximately 12 inches in diameter and 1/8 inch thick. Use heart shaped cutters as guide; dough should be only slightly thinner than cutter. Dip cutter in flour before each use. Using a straw, punch a hole in the cookie.
Bake cookies on ungreased cookie sheet on top rack of oven for 6-7 minutes, or until cookies are lightly browned. Remove to wire racks and cool completely. Frost with your favorite glaze. Using the wedding color, write the bride's name on 1/2 the cookies and the groom's name on the other half. Let icing completely dry.
Tie one of each of the cookies together with wedding colored ribbon, tying plastic golden rings at the bow. Use as favors or announcements. Makes about 4 dozen cookies. Enjoy!
