We love every episode of At Home, but we have to admit that some shows are just more fun than others. And what could be more fun than grilling up a whole bunch of delicious hot dogs, and covering them in a wild variety of topppings?
In this episode from 2011, Arlene and Patti are doing a “Hot Diggity Dog Show” with seven different kinds of hot dog recipes. There are grilled Frenchy franks, Milwaukee dogs, blue cheese deviled dogs, Seattle dogs, Atlanta dogs, Kansas city dogs, and Anchorage dogs. Which one is your favorite?
Grilled Frenchy Franks
Sweet, salty, and crunchy. What a great combination of flavors!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup french fried onions (from 2/8 oz can)
- 4 coarse-ground beef franks
- 4 hot dog or bratwurst buns, split
- 2 tbsp mustard hot dog relish
- 2 tbsp French salad dressing
Instructions
- Heat grill. In small skillet, cook onions over medium-high heat for 3 to 4 minutes or until slightly browned, stirring occasionally. Set aside.
- When ready to grill, cut franks in half lengthwise, cutting almost but not completely through. Open franks and place, cut side down, on gas grill over medium heat or on charcoal grill 4 to 6 inches from medium coals. Cook 5 to 10 minutes or until thoroughly heated, turning once. To toast buns, place cut sides down on grill during last 1 to 2 minutes of cooking time.
- To serve, spread cut sides of each bun with about 1 /2 tablespoon relish. Place frank in each bun. Top with salad dressing and onions. Makes 4 servings. Enjoy!
